The New York Daily News reported that a recent study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that 80% of all distracted driving incidents are food related. Coffee is ranked as the worst item to consume around the wheel as hitting a bump in the road can lead to significant disturbance of the beverage even with a travel lid, leading to immediate distraction. In a separate study conducted by Exxon Mobile, it was found that 70% of drivers eat while driving. Distracted drivers more focused on their burgers than the road are posing a major threat to safety (Locher, Mortiz, 2009).
